I bought my wife a new mobilphone 3 weeks ago, it is a Samsung GT-B5510 android just for the fact that she likes a full keyboard instead of having to press the keys several times to get each letter when texting.

She has never been a heavy user so a contract was not needed and she had a Pay n Go card that allows you to load the card with whatever you feel you will need.
Unbeknown to me (not as tech savvy as i thought) the androids are just like a PC and constantly updating all the applications on it, so i was surprised when we found it was using 2 euros per day even when not in use (that's 60 euro's per month) so i took it back to the supplier and asked if they could help, this real wizz kid came to my assistance and after 20 minutes of very patient explanation i finally understood that there was no way to stop this from happening other than taking out a contract with an allowance of 500mb per month free time on the internet to allow it to update as much as it wants.
I can not complain about this happening only to say that when you buy an android it would be nice if the information was available at the purchase point because us pensioners are not fully aware of all this new technology and even though it is probably buried in the small print i would really like it to have been apparent when i bought the phone.

Little rant finished thanks for listening (reading)

I hate to disappoit you Bill but I think you have been the victim of impropper selling. The charges will come from 3g data charges. You can simply turn off 3g which will mean the apps cant update thus no charges. You can also turn off the automatic update features for individual apps.

Go to settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks then uncheck data roaming. Your wife can still hook the phone up to your home wifi to get updates. Alternatively there is an called 3g Auto OnOff. this adds a widget to your phone desktop that will allow you to turn 3g on and off. It will also turn it off when you lock the keypad and turn it on when you unlock the keypad if you like. I would go back to the phone company and ask them to cancel the contract as it has been miss-sold. If they refuse then report them to your countries trading standards department for miss-selling

    Hey Tueur
We did all that in the store but it continued to use the 2 euros per day,it was on the second visit that the contract was suggested and to be honest i am not upset about it because it only costs 15 euros per month which gives her unlimited sms's plus 2 hours talk time per month and it is linked to my TV/internet/land line provider so we have full control over usage.
I offered to buy Laurette a new basic phone but she was happy with the Samsung so now we are both content.
