    Dear Forum~~
I am new here and my poor computer has been innundated with viruses and spyware despite my updating MS patches faithfully.

Running XP on Dell Pentium 4

I hope this is the right forum to post this, if not please advise

    I have 3 problems:

I am unable to update my Adaware, it always says:

    "Error retrieving update"

    whenever I try to connect.

Also I have 2 problems with Norton Anti Virus 2004:

I scanned for problems and when the list of 21 things came up, norton advised I used their repair system to fix each file, or quarantine it.

It worked on a couple of files and then froze. I could not press anything--cancel, save, fix, nothing. It just froze.

I ran a second scan and when I clicked on the fix box, it froze immediately, did not repair anything. So those things are still on my system and I do not know what to do.

Also, Norton is not permitting me to download some things or to view certain files saying I do not have permission to view things or do things.

I have tried the Symantec help site, read my Norton manual, and I still cannot figure out how to be recognized as the administrator.

I registered the product with my name, but I am still left out.

Please help, I am so desperate. My system was down for 42 days and it is now running sporadically.

    Thanks so much,
    Mishkyn

    Dear Halo,
Thanks for your suggestions. I finally had to uninstall and reinstall Norton. Now it is working properly.

Also, to update Adaware, I went to this site and downloaded the updates directly. It was not recognizing the server until I came here.

I bought the Norton a week ago and had to update it with 7 and a half hours of updates. (Dial-up connection, obviously).
    Thanks all,
    Mishkyn
