New PowerSupply

    ello.

    My computer power supply has been given me problems... ive had it for about 5-6 years and its starting to die :s

    Im going to buy a new one but im not sure if i can buy just any power supply or i need a certain one...

    Any help appreciated.

    If you have an ATX currently then any ATX power supply will work and on the lower end of the scale. It would help if you can state your current system specs if you know them.

    You'll be fine with 400-500 watt PSU,its recommended to get a good quality unit with high amps on the 12v rails this is where your computer will draw most of its power,cheaper PSU's although have a high wattages use many tricks to make up that wattage that simply cant be used in real world conditions:)

    Just make sure that the psu you want to buy has enough molex connectors as new psus have power strands with just Sata connectors, which I guess will be useless to you.

    Of course you can overcome this problem by clipping on molex connectors but why go to the trouble if you do not need to.
