New Prescott cpu

hi guys i will be upgrading my cpu tommorow to a pent 4 3.ghz prescott, everything is compatible but i was just wondering if it comes with a thermal pad is it better to use that, or buy and apply some thermal paste instead?

See this link. Thermal products are all about the same. There just has to be SOMETHING there to transfer heat. The pad that comes with the heatsink should suffice.

Everyone Jokes about the E meaning: Extra Heat "LOL"
Good Quality Thermal Paste like AS5 or AS Ceramique is better than the stock thermal pad

Hope your case has good Airflow
I'd suggest aftermarket HSF
I used a ThermalRight XP-90 with a Panaflow H1b

Remember Higher the CPU temps the shorter the life, Under 50c No Worries

 

ah right ok thanks, well as a matter of fact my airflow is poor at the moment as i basically used my old case and upgraded the pc inside, the mobo and the rest so the stock fans wernt designed for the temps that my computer now clocks up, i dont actually have the rear fan installed, the one under the PSU, so i will be checking the size today and going to pc world or something and buying a fan to keep my temps low im not too sure is the rear fan usually 80mm and 100mm? i think mine is probably 80mm

just an update if any one can help
processor has arrived installed the ram so im up to 2 gigs now, games running fast! just wondering if heatsinks vary a great deal, will i be able to put the stock heatsink from an intel celeron 2.5 northwood onto the prescott 3ghz? i will be buying an 80mm rear fan to increase air flow today, my current cpu at medium load runs at 35oC currently.
