New problems with old IE

I still use Windows XP a lot

Until very recently it worked satisfactorily for me.

Now, I am getting a number of problems.

The first is that on all systems I keep getting security certificate invalid on a few sites which usec to work. This is on just one PC I haven't used for a while. notably on www.hotmail.com and ebay

The other problem is that when I try to access my emails I first get the message 'you need to update IE'. I am using IE8 which the most recent update for ie available to use this as previously, not in the useless mobile format). What to do ?

(I discovered that on one PC referred to above that under one circumstance, I'm not sure what I did, it let me into hotmail as I knew it (not the mobile ver) but with security certificate error)

Certificate error solved - by setting time and date correctly in BIOS not just in the system tray

Hotmail/IE8 or just hotmail problem remains. Why is mobile view only permitted all of a sudden ??
