    I was spradically getting BSOD
    (The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80543770, 0xb2000010, 0x00010c0f) )

Now the KB article said that it was a hardware issue.

    I changed my PSU from a 230w to 450w

I was told that 230 was not enough to run what I had (hardly surprising)
    AMD Athlon64 3000+
    Radeon 9600xt
    Seagate 80gb SATA HDD
    Maxtor 60bg HDD
    1 stick 512 ram
    FDD
    DVD Rewriter

Now my computer has been on for nearly 24hours and is running great... not that I mind that... just wonderd wheter the psu could have been causing this error or am I likly to see another BSOD

Well, I guess thats my question...

    cheers

Well it could be that the system as a whole wasn't getting enough power to run everything efficiently. Had you not been able to keep the machine running for 24 hours before?

Not that I can recall, I am not hoping for anything just yet though...
no doubt when I get round the getting back to work it will decide to play about again... if something can go wrong, it will do

Was just reading another forum and it seems chaning my power supply was a sensible idea anyway...

    http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=101151

It seems that the amperage was not enough...

    My old PSU:

    +12 15A (site recommended 16A or more)
    +5 30A (30A at min, pref 40A)
    +3.3 28A (25A min, pref 35A)

    New PSU
    +12 22A
    +5 45A
    +3.3 30A

So it seems I was borderline or below... so I aint an expert or anything, but I am guessing thats better... and the next time I have to buy a PSU I dont think I will go in blind... fortunatly it turned out well... so far...

Yea that 64 bit processor and high end video card will eat up power. Not to mention duel hds, and your other devices, I am surprised it booted at all.

Many people concentrate on the Max Watt output where the consistent average output is more critical along with the Amp value of +5 and +3 voltages (especially on the newer mobos).
No P4 and AMD XP should have less than 32Amp for +5 and 350Watt output if the user has multiple HDs, top end Video card, CPU and 1+GB of top end RAM, I'd recommend no less than 35A w/400Watt output!
Also one other important factor is AMD/Intel recommended PSU is not the same as AMD/Intel Approved....but most every top end PSU make/model is at the very least adequate for today's demanding PC systems.
Stick with known reliable, reputable brands! It is money well spent IMO. ;)

I have read little about my the brand I purchased, but from what I have read now it seems I was lucky in the mine field of poor PSUs.

Jeantech 450w , cool little blue light makes my desk all homely at night...

well, when I upgrade next I will think on getting a new one if that one aint up to much...

Really not wanting to damage anything with a sub standard psu...

I was using the cheap powersupply that came with my case every thing ran but not as fast as it should. I then went and replaced my powersupply and it improved the speed and 3d mark 03 gained about 400 points just by me switching powersupplies, odd yes, but its true.

Mine felt a little perkier.... but I think it was just in my head... I only have an old pc pit stop score to compare it to... of course thats no use as they have changed the scoring now...
