Hi i have a medion its a MSI (micro star) MS-7318. I have just put in a new stick of 1GB crutial RAM to go along with the other 1GB. I have a program installed called CPUID CPU-Z and when i go on there it says its been placed into the computer but when i go onto the task manager it says i only have 1021mb and am guessing it should be higher with 2GB now in the motherboard, also when i go into the system info it still says 1GB. Any help will be great thanks.

What does it show when you go into the BIOS. It may be that you have the incorrect type of RAM for your machine, or if it has four slots, two are empty, you would need to place that new RAM in the next available slot, so it is RAM stick, empty, RAM stick, empty.

I had this very same problem because i found out that certain operating systems don't know how to allocate that much system memory, in my case vista home basic, which can only support 1gb... in my opinion that is too little for vista of any standard but not much i can do about it... I've long since changed my OS however. Try checking the version of your operating system against its allocatable system memory.
    Hope this helps

Yes, Vista starter is a circumcised OS, when it came to MS taking the easy way out on that one.

Ah, I didn't know MS got the "not so brilliant idea" for a starter edition with Vista. I thought windows 7 was the first OS with a starter edition.
I've purposefully avoided learning anything about Vista. ;)

It is the only version of windows, aside from server versions, that I have never run starting with my fist windows computer 3.11 (Windows for Workgroups).

Any of my friends looking for a new computer, I told them to either buy XP or wait for a while and buy a Windows 7 one. All but one listened to me. The one that didn't listen, had problems with the computer (some of his own creating) and had a computer guy come to the house to fix and then finally took the computer to his shop and installed Windows 7 on it.

Actually Vista as a whole is a pretty good OS. It made the jump for those going from XP to 7 ease through the learning curve with the changes. I have ran Vista & 7 side by side, and in all reality, both are pretty good OS's. If I go to work and use my workstation running XP, I can notice a huge difference then in memory usage on the OS's.

Certainly want to do some testing.

    1. Check to make sure the module you installed is a PC2-4200 (DDR2-533MHz), both are the same. This is the module your computer supports, it also supports higher speed memory but will clock at the lower speeds.
    2. If the module if correct then remove you old module and try booting with just the new module. This will let you know if your comp is supporting that module and recognizing it properly.
    3. If it booted with the new one my best is that the mobo requires you install the modules in pairs, this means that you must have two identical modules.

Do also not that mix and matching RAM speeds won't work, unless your mother board is baus like Mr. Samburg ;)

Good luck ping me if you have any other issues.
