    Hi All,

    Hope someone can help :)

I have installed a new SATA Hard Drive on my PC. It works fine, but my DVD drives disappear (from BIOS, My Computer and Device Manager). If I unplug the new Sata drive, the DVD drives come back. They do not have the same letter assigned... I have played about with the jumpers on the DVD drive, but that didnt help. It seems that the Sata Drive takes the place of the DVD drive in Bios...?? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ray

Is the dvd drive also a SATA drive, or an IDE drive?

    Hi,

The DVD Drive is an IDE.

    Thanks

I've come across this before, and I think it was related to a flaw in the systems BIOS. Do you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard installed?

    Thanks abekl,

I have now solved the problem. For others in the future... in the Bios Serial ATA Configuration, you need to set the Sata Mode to 'OS Only'. You will not be able to boot from the Sata drive, but at least you get the extra storage space.

Thanks again abekl, and sorry to have wasted your time.
