New Seagate Tool

Under Drive Utilities, here at MG, can anyone explain how to use this new Seagate Tool? I burned it to a CD, and it says to reboot with the CD in, but nothing happens. My computer just reboots like normal. I looked in the notes, and it says something about pressing F2 when rebooting but I'm not sure about how this works. Does anyone out there know?

 

Uh...could you please rephrase that for a complete idiot. Who What Where is my Bios? How do I do that?

 

To get into the bios hit the Delete key on your keyboard during post (the first screen that list the cpu and drives).

Once you are into the bios (the screens will be blue) look for the boot order (can't remember what the page is exactly but try them all).

Once you find it, you will see 1st boot device, 2nd boot device, 3rd etc....
make sure that the first boot device is set to your optical. Then save and exit bios.

Place the CD into the optical drive as pc is restarting and now your pc will try to boot from the cd that you placed in the optical.

Thanks risk_reversal. But what do you mean "during post"? Does that mean the first screen that comes up when you reboot the machine? Also, what's the "optical drive"? The CD RW drive? Thanks again.

 

The first screen, where it counts the RAM. And CD's, and DVD's are the only optical drives. All others are Magnetic. So yes, a CDRW would be optical, unless you have more than one, then it should seperate them.
