New Second Hard Drive won't Show Up

    Just installed a second hard drive on my Dell Dimension 8300. The new hard drive is a Maxtor SATA 300GB. I connected it to the power source and to a second ATA connection on the motherboard (the first/original hard drive is also an SATA and is hooked to the motherboard as well).

    The BIOS set-up now refelcts a second hard drive (@ 300GB). And when Windows XP starts up, I can see the new hard drive in the device manager (and the device manager says the drive is working properly). However, I can't "see" the new hard drive under "My Computer".

    A couple of other things. My two CD/DVD drives have all moved up in their drive classification: they used to be labeled E: and F:, but are now labeled D: and E: Also, there are no jumpers on these SATA drives (like I am used to for the older IDE drives). Do you have to indicated master-slave relationships? If so, how?

    Thanks for any help you can give.

    Go to the disk manager and see if the drive needs to be partitioned and formated.

    go to Start--> Run--> diskmgmt.msc
