New sound card = NO sound HELP!

Okay so after trying for a week to get a headset to work (two different ones) I, with the help of a couple friends believed that the onboard audio, was not functioning properly. So I bought a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Card, and the install saga began. I followed the directions that came with the card, deleting the on board audio driver, turning off everything not essential (anti virus etc). Used the enclosed CD to load the software.... and nothing. No sound no matter what. Yes in the BIOS the on board card is "off", yes the new card is the default. Using the diagnostic tool it says the Directsound test fails. I have tried to use the Microsoft "fix-it" tool, but it cannot "connect to server". At this point I'm ready to toss my computer out the window. I have loaded the Speccy tool and am attaching the results below. Any advice would be welcome, I'm stumped and my kid is dying to play on her ABC mouse account....bad daddy I am.

Frankly, saying the sound card is broken sounds like a cop out and you really need to give us more information on the original card. I would never have sent you to get a new card without first trying everything on your old card. They rarely fail.

I deleted your Speccy for 2 reasons. 1, I prefer to diagnose OR hear how your friends determined it was bad and 2, you had your Windows 7 serial number in it.

I highly doubt that the card was the issue, frankly I would go back and work on the onboard sound card. Often you need to both make sure all drivers are up to date including motherboard and then go to the Realtek properties and be sure that every thing is on.
