New system, locks at boot/splash screen

    Ok I recently built a new computer and salvaged some parts from my old (drives, sound card, network card, hard drives).
    I formatted my primary drive as I know there would be so many issues with windows and old hardware that was detected.
    However, with a FRESH install of windows on the drive. The problem is after booting with the CD, formatting drive, selecting partition ect and restarting, it goes to the Windows XP splash screen, the blue bar goes through 2 full times and on the 3rd it freezes 1/4 of the way and stops there. I have left it for an hour and it was still there. It stops at the exact same spot every time. So I am at a loss right now, any ideas?

    Start removing hardware as it seems likely you have a hardware problem. You need your motherboard, 1 hard drive and one video card and 1 stick of ram. Everything else is "extra". See if problem continues, if so, it gets ugly now because you need replacement parts to determine what part is bad. Hopefully with old parts you can temp swap until you find it.

    I feel like an utter idiot. I bought a PCI-E graphics card that is Crossfire compatible, next payday I will be buying the Crossfire edition card to run, well; Crossfire.
    So I plugged this PCI-E card in the "Slave" slot as I will be getting the 2nd card soon. That was the problem, it had to be in the primary slot....
