    Hey all,
I just built a new system and I'm having a problem getting it to power up. It starts, but only for about 2 seconds and shuts down. Here's the system specs.

    XFX KT40A-ANH MOBO
    1.8 Duron
    256MB DDR 266MHZ ram
    MAxtor 120g HDD

I've checked the jumpers according to the manual, and even tried changing the bus speed. It seems to run a little longer at 200MHZ, but still shuts down. The higher the speed, the faster it shuts off. Hopefully, I'm just overlooking something really dumb..... any ideas?

    Thanks

have you checked to make sure the motherboard is correctly grounded to the case i know i had that problem with my abit board...it would do that to me...but it wasnt grounded right

thought so... I pulled the MOBO out and reseated it just to make sure. I tried to power it up with just the cpu, fan and video card in, moved the video card and still same thing.

well then maybe your bios or something are messed up...or the board is just defective

I wounder if ya might be overclocking & not know it?

In bios what is your Cpu fsb?
In bios what is your memory FSB?

I dont know what speed your cpu supports off hand, I think it's 200fsb, in bios the clock speed would be set at 100 mhz.
Your Memory supports 266 fsb but in bios it would be at 133 mhz
If any setting in Bios is at 200 mhz would be wrong!

Have a look at this guide:
    http://store.yahoo.com/directron/fsbguide.html

If your Cpu & memory speeds are set rite, then problem could be heat issue possibly cpu/heatsink not seated properly??
Did you install yourself? Did you use thermal pad or thermal paste??
Is your cpu fan Pluged in and running?

the only way I can tell so far to set the fsb is with jumper on the board. I haven't been able to get into the bios yet. it's set at 266MHZ by default. The lowest it goes is 200MHZ, but that didn't work either. The 1.8 Duron is rated at and the memory is pc 2100(266MHZ) DDR

I miss read your post slightly, thought you said your able to boot for 2 min,
    Opp's 2 seconds.
    Anyway.
What power supply are you running?
Re read your manual make sure all your jumpers are set correctly.
Too only power on for 2 sec's or so, first thought's a short or power problem.

Check case/mobo standoffs are they all in the correct position's?
I would try another PSU or test this one if possible.
    I would also make sure CPU/Heatsink installed properly, R & R
Check front pannel wiring you only need power & onboard speaker.
Another thing to do remove mobo from case place on mobo box connect only basic hardware, cpu/HS, one stick mem, video card and try to post.

Thanks for all your help... I'll try ASUS' idea and let you know what happens...
