    Hi guys,

    So, just ordered:

    ASUS P4P800 Deluxe mobo
    Vantec Stealth 520W PSU
    Radeon 9800 Pro
Corsair XMS4000 Pro TwinX (2x512MB) 1GB Dual Channel Pack
    P4 3.0C Northwood cpu

    I'll be using the existing case and HDD - 40GB ata133 , 8.4GB ata100.

Do these look like good choices?
Will the RAM @ 500MHz be Ok with the mobo?
Should I buy a new SATA HD?

    Any comments gratefully received!

    Andy.

    Looks good to me.

If you are going to overclock the FSB, make sure you get some good cooling. I'm not sure what kind of HSF you'd want with a Pentium system though.

However, if you aren't overclocking, I'd suggest getting PC3200 RAM because of the lower timings.

As for the HDD, if you can afford it, I'd get two SATA drives and RAID-0 them.

    thanks, I'm getting a Zalman CNPS7000A-CU.

what other cooling will be needed for OC do you think? I don't want it to be too loud.

the case I have has a 100mm fan in the front at the bottom for air in and 2 60mm ones at the rear at the top for exhaust.
however, I don't have them connected anymore cos of the sound but then again they are just oem type fans.

maybe replace them with quiet ones?

    Hi Andy
The zalman is a good choice, personally i would fire your new system up and see what sort of temps you are running before deciding on any further cooling

Then you could decide to change the OEM fans for some quieter models, or consider getting yourself a fan controller so you can adjust the speeds as and when needed ;)

Thanks again, decided to keep the old system intact and get a new case with built in fans (7 of them!)

the case is a Thermaltake V1000A Xaser III Supertower

I've also pushed the boat out and ordered 2 x Seagate ST3120026AS 120gb 7200rpm Barracuda 7200.7 SATA hard drives.
oh, and some blue cathode tubes, glowing sata cables and cable tidy kit.

God knows how long it will take to put it all together, get all the cables neat etc. etc. !

I'll let you know how I get on
