New to me

Discussion in 'Majorgeeks Welcome Center' started by Glenn David Connell, Jun 13, 2009.

  1. My name is Glenn, I was taking classes ( A+ Net+ MCP ) at a school called Internetworking Learning Institute in Mount Laurel New Jersey USA. I have passed my 601 and 602 tests but am struggling a little with Net+. Classes are over and I find myself a little tossed between just learning what i need to for certification and trying to absorb as much as possible. I have a friend Kathy who interacts with MajorGeeks for the last year and a half, wants to work in Security as do I, and has found this site and you all praise worthy group of Cool techs. I need help. What can I do to succeed in this and direct myself thru the next several certifications. Also, I have been unemployed since August of 2008 and my resources are expiring shortly. I got money through the county (Philadelphia in Pennsylvania) to pay for courses which i just completed. Can you suggest anything?

    Hi Glenn

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear of your plight in lack of employment but I would hazard a guess that if you continue as Kathy (if KathyM a great member here) has in learning as much as possible, no doubt you will find employment soon, so good luck.

For finding work I would draft up a really good resume, not too long just two pages of info and fire it off to as many employeers in your area that may have IT depts, as soon as you get foot in door your away!

What area of computing do you wish to specialise in?

As Augie mentions, Majorgeeks has many techs in various areas that will as much as they can aim you in right area, so do join in with the chat on the forum as you will gain tips and hints to help you.

Hello, Glenn. Welcome to MGs :wave
If you are as tenacious as KathyM, you got nuttin to worry about.
You'll be fine. Just go with what you feel is the right direction.
As K found out, all the support and help you need is right here, at the best tech support site anywhere.
Best wishes for the future, good luck in your studies and hoping you can find steady employment soon.

Dont worry as what you posted is fine and not too personal (no slapped wrists today ;) ), all we try and say is dont post openly too much personal ID stuff more to protect you than us as ID theft is rife these days.

Think you'll fit in here great :) if you can help with tech queries then do join in and help others as TBH tech support on forums does these days give you some edge on a resume as many techs on forums are IT Pros, Network Admins, Microsoft MVPs, etc so showing your willing to help others is good.

Hehehe, you could have asked Halo to change your alias instead, as having two accounts is frowned upon.;) Don't worry, you won't get whipped!:-D He'll probably delete these posts and change your original alias to Super***

    Hi

Not the easiest thing to do as you created a new account so deleted the old and the new one is active, but the origianal account would have been ok, maybe I could have changed that account name but with two I went with the latter user name.

Any new posts will be under the SuperHeat1960 name.
