I just repaired an old computer that is now connected by wifi. The old one, Windows 7 can access the new one [windows 8.1], to transfer files, but not the other way round. I get a message "enter network credentials" with a user name and pass word required. Tried my windows 8.1 user account info, but no luck. ???? Any help would be appreciated.

If you're accessing the W7 PC, shouldn't you be using your W7 credentials?

Thats the problem. I can access the Win8 from downstairs with NO credentials, and the win7 HAS no log on credentials, so what should I be entering?

    Just a guess

Could this be looking for the network name and router password, like with Windows Wireless Zero Service?

Whatever user account it boots into and the password, leave it blank if you don't have one.(Though you should.)

Or use Homegroup, as previously suggested.
