I just updated to the latest AntiVir and thought the following info might be useful as i have noticed quite a few people around here use it (I found it thanks to MG)

AntiVir now uses TCP/IP to communicate between the different modules. If a particular firewall doesn't "autolearn" then a user may have problems with the program not working.

Although i cannot find the link again, I also read that the new version of AntiVir is having problems with the latest version of Zonealarm. They are having problems getting a stable connection to 127.0.0.1. so the modules will not talk to each other.
    Hope this is useful

127.0.0.1 is the local loop-back addy. It's safe.

I understand it is not actually going onto the internet, that is why i posted the message. I was concerned because when i updated i got the ZA pop-up stating a program (AntiVir Guard) wanted internet access. This had never happened before, with AntiVir (unless i was running the update engine). That is when i found the link stating that they now use TCP/IP to communicate between the different program modules (AntiVir Guard with AntiVir Main, AntiVir Upgrade, etc etc). It is totally indepenent of both IE and windows explorer.

Hadn't seen your post Kodo, i understand 127.0.0.1 is safe, but, the new version of ZA doesn't let the new version of AntiVir maintain a stable connection. Which since it now uses TCP/IP to communicate within itself gives it problems.

any way to make sure that 127.0.0.1 is in a trusted zone?

Yeah ZA let's you set that up. I am not actually having a problem with it since i still have 4.5.594 of ZA. I noticed a couple of threads where people where having all kinds of problems with the ZA upgrade so i have stayed away for the time being.
I just thought i'd try and be helpful because it caught me off gaurd when AntiVir all of a sudden wanted "internet" access after the upgrade. Then after finding the info that i did, i figured it might be usefull to others. If they are using a firewall that doesn't "autolearn" then they need to know that they will have to go in and adjust the programs that they allow or AntiVir will not work.
Hope I have helped and not confused people.
