New video card causes lag on BF 1942?

HP workstation xw4000
CPU - Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
RAM - 256Mb
Video Card - ATI 9800 Radeon Pro 128Mb

I have always had some lag on BF 1942, especially on desert combat and forgotten hope. However, I still have lag with my new video card. Before I had a Quadro4 64Mb video card, but now I have a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro128Mb. Shouldn't this clear up some of the lag that I had before? I know my RAM is extremely low, but shouldn't the new card help?

I'm going to upgrade my RAM to 1 gig, so if the RAM is my problem, that will probably solve it. I'm going to order from newegg.com, and suggestions on what 2x512 sticks of ram I should get would be appreciated. Corsair seems popular. Any input would be great.

I'd say the 1 gig of ram will be a HUGe help. Corsair is great ram but the speed you should get depends on which mobo you have.

 

Its not the card. Trust me. When you get more ram you will see a major boost! I had a 9800pro, and Battlefield 1942 looked great! Even BFV Ran smooth at highest settings.

you will see even a performance increase going to 512mb ram. i have a 9200 with 1gig ram and i don't ever lag and i'm usually one of the first one's on the server.

like everyone else said, its not your video card, its your amount of ram (or lack thereof)

I'll get the gig and test that out. If i replace the mobo, do I have to replace anything else? The mobo is what everything hooks into so do I need to make sure everything is compatible with a new mobo?

if you replace the mobo, make sure your processor will be compatable. most likely, the ram will be, but if i were you, i would just look into adding ram.
