new win xp udate

    i went to windows update ,and was told to download
    " Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) " is this safe to do
    what is this ,what does it fix

    using win xp home .already had sp2 download

    You must have .net framework already installed. Update shows the full installation for me but I haven't got around to putting it on yet.

    The framework allows developers to use a variety of languages for their programs. You will need it if you are going to use the new ATI Control Centre.

    never had a problem with .net .. and as Hipster said some software is written around the .net architecture.

    what is an ATI control center? is it something to do with games? i do not play games on this puter, so do i still need this update? i too have XP home and sp2 is installed. aloha

    ATI control center you can downloadl off www.ati.com and you will only need it if yoou have an ATI graphic card such as Radeon is........
    Unless you you have an ATI card you dont need it
    I'm pretty sure thats the case.

    You'll only need .net framework if you install a progran that uses it. If you install the program without .net installed the program will fail to open. When that happens you will need to load .net framework.
