For anyone wanting a PE version of Win 10 this new one is easy to create and worked first time for me. You can even boot it from EasyBCD or from a CD of course, and a flash drive too though I haven't tried that yet.

If you haven't used WinBuilder before it makes the job easy though because of the nature of the software you will probably need to temporarily disable your AV.

For those who have never used a PE, or don't know why they might need one, I pinched this off of Wikipedia =

Windows Preinstallation Environment (also known as Windows PE and WinPE) is a lightweight version of Windows used for the deployment of PCs, workstations, and servers, or troubleshooting an operating system while it is offline. It is intended to replace MS-DOS boot disks and can be booted via USB flash drive, PXE, iPXE,[1] CD-ROM, or hard disk.

As I recall, you and ImandiMann were experimenting with PEs. Aren't you limited to portable apps though?

Amazing you remember that  Yes, that's true about portable apps, but it's like a repair bay - everything you might need to repair or salvage a pc is right there at hand. If you never do repairs you don't need a PE of course.

I first read your post while on lunch break at work and later downloaded it last night. Tomorrow's first day off so will check it out then. I'll always try another. Esp'lly with thumb drives since it's easy to re-use if I don't like it. I have found the time when I needed 2 pe's. I used 1 to re-image the disk but it wouldn't boot so I used another that had a 'fix boot' option. I believe in options and practice. I have found on newer pc's it getting harder if not impossible to boot with Bart's and some other older 'boot' disks. And some manufactures are not always allowing usb boot in the bios, so dvd versions are good to have around also. I always boot mine every so often to be sure the disc has not degraded.

    Thanks for the tip!

This builder will actually build from Vista onwards. I used it to build a Vista pe and got it working fairly quick. During the build it gave a error that boot.sdi from my Vista cd copy was too old and needed a newer version. I took a copy from one of my Win10 iso files and changed to that. Built a second time and used Rufus to make a bootable usb. I installed quite a few of the programs listed in the main program and most worked well. Even though it was Vista most programs worked on my 8.1 era hardware. HWInfo for instance showed my mobo and memory and else accurately. Had recovery and drive image and other tools available.

This could be good for anyone wanting a Windows boot disk or usb drive for most computers still being used. Also some good info about the process and means of building your own custom boot in the readme files. I'm a 'curious George' so these things always interest me.

I feel pe's are a great tool for working on pc's and if one takes the time to become familiar with the capabilities it will be an asset worth having. I've read that a lot of this wasn't available in the past unless you were in a corporate or enterprise environment. Good thing that this capability is now here for everyday users and may help people with any hardware, older or newer, to get in touch with their machines as well as protect from data loss and software/ hardware/ user failures.

If you are using EasyBCD it's worth adding it to the boot menu as it boots in a flash. Anything at all I want to do offline now this will be the first option. Opera works so well I even found myself browsing with it just for the fun of it. Having this, along with the system images and you feel pretty bombproof. Yes, it should work with 8, 7 and Vista systems but I removed the last of my dual boots about six months ago as I'm finding 10 so stable and competent there's no longer any point in retaining them. Yep, we've come a long way since BartPE.
