New Windows 10 Install- Blue Screen on Startup

    Hello,
After having nagging problems with a Win 7 OS I finally did a clean install of W7-Home Premium and after activation, proceeded to download all MS updates and finally got the Upgrade to Windows 10 icon in task bar. I followed all those steps, updated a few drivers and began to run W10.

Initially there was always startup success ending at the desktop. Now, after three days, the bootup starts heroically, but then hangs up with a blue screen with a digital clock. One out of 5 times if I wait 20 minutes, it will finally complete startup and the desktop appears. Other times it gets stuck further on when the W10 wallpaper is showing and the circle swirl, swirls and swirls, and swirls. Then it goes back to blue screen.

Following online help posts on the internet I've enabled the UIFA (?) in the BIOS and made sure the HD is boot option one. But the problem remains.

    Any suggestions for a fix?
    Thanks

Problems with W7, BSOD with W10 - it might be a hardware/compatibility problem, can you detail all the hardware in the computer, please?

    Thanks for your reply.
I've attached a Belarc profile of the ASUS laptop. It was taken before I re-installed Win7 and then Win 10. But of course hardware is the same.

I sometimes get a warning text on the blue screen that it has trouble starting because of some hard ware that is connected or disconnected. But only the lan cable and power cord are connected ??

    Hope the info helps.

Best guess based on that data is that Windows is having problems deciding which of the two graphics cards it should use (Intel HD or nVidia), which seems to be a fairly common complaint on W10; this can also be a problem on earlier Windows versions - OEM drivers (ASUS here) work, generic (Intel/nVidia) break it.

Check with ASUS for driver updates for your notebook, even going back to W7 drivers might fix it, though newer should be better.

Failing that, try Windows Updates for better drivers.

Thanks, unfortunately currently I'm unable to get past the startup blue screen to the startup desktop. So can't work with the drivers.

I have a W10 install disk. Should I just reinstall W10? Its a major pain to telephone and go through the telephone activation. Is there çurrently another way to access the desktop or to just update W10 with the disk, while still keeping the activation code in place?

The Startup repair option wasn't successful.

If the current hardware has already been activated, a clean install should give (semi- still needs to connect to the MS Activation servers) automatic activation.
