new windows mail - set up assistance

I have a new desktop with Windows VISTA basic. The windows mail (replaced OUTLOOK) was kinda set-up by an IT guy and for some reason I am unable to fully use it.

I think this msg is a problem: The host 'mail.iinet.net.au' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'mail.iinet.net.au', Server: 'mail.iinet.net.au', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

This what I know...Request information on how to check settings and correct if possible.


incoming mail server POP3
Incoming Mail (POP3) mail.iinet.net.au
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) mail.iinet.net.au

Server Port No's
incoming mail POP3= 110
Outging mail SMTP= 25

 

Is your antivirus program set to scan the email? Sometimes this can cause issues even through your server settings appear correct. Antivirus apps usually filter mail by changing your mail settings to localhost or 127.0.0.1 in the list. This redirects mail to your computer to be rescanned. Worth checking into.
