First I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 with XP recently loaded(original Vista Machine). I loaded XP because I wanted to see if it would run better than Vista. I found almost all my drivers except two that have been a major issue becuase they involve my sound.tried going to the HP website but they don't offer drivers for this machine with XP only vista. I have tried looking at all the websites but finding drivers has been a little troublesome. I have loaded sp3. The error message I get when I try to open sound or play something is "Sound Recorder cannot record or play back because a sound device is not installed. To install a sound device, go to Control panel, click printers and other Hardware, and then click add hardware". I have exclamations on my Audio Device on high def audio bus and Uknown device. I have downloaded the MS UAA but it didnt help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    everest report

If those drivers cause you problems run an everest report and post it. However those are the correct drivers for a xp machine

Thanks for the webpage info, it helped to update a couple of drivers. AS far as my other problem with the Audio/SD reader it wasn't. I ran an everest report(first time doing that so let me know if this is the right info) and I must say it was pretty extensive and large but I will give it a go and post it:

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

There are many, MANY laptops in the dv6000 series. Above, buggabear has linked to the dv6000CTO drivers. If this is your exact model number, then you're good to go. If not, those drivers may not work. Check the small white sticker on the bottom of the laptop; you'll notice there's 2 different model numbers: you'll see "dv6000", plus there is usually a 2nd model number like "dv6012us" or "dv6324nr". Post this number if the above link doesn't have the right drivers. Or attach an Everest report to your next post as suggested above by buggabear.

Sorry about that, the numbers on the bottom is:

    dv6700
    and then:

dv6704nr - I found this driver page on HP but the drivers were for Vista

Ahhhh... dv6704nr.... this helps.... however.... I just checked the HP web site, and even with the exact model number, there appears to be several different configurations that were marketed: 2 different sound chips, 3 different wifi chips, etc. This means we need more info. Download and run Unknown Devices. It should tell you the maker of the sound chip; either Realtek or Conexant. If it doesn't, right click the heading, select "Device Details" and post the info under "Hardware ID". A screenshot is attached....

Thanks for all the help. I ran Unknown devices and it brought up a question mark by two items:

Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus - below this it says conexant sys

    and then

Unknown device - below saying unable to detect Hardware ID: HPQ0007
