New XP Pro Laptop Wireless Connection Issue

I recently received my dad's old Dell Laptop. Before I created my own username, logging on to his worked on my home network (Netgear WGR614v6). Once I created my own, it wouldn't recognize on my network. I've since reformatted (Reinstalled WinXP Pro SP3 and all the drivers) but am having the same problem. The router assigns an IP address, and I can ping the router and other computers in the network, but it will not connect me to any webpage (even the router's 192...). It also does not seem to want to recognize the device name in the 'attached devices' section.

Any suggestions or help would be awesome!

 

click start > control panel> system> hardware > come down to change computer workgroup enter the workgroup name also type a new computer name in the box above it. click apply and it should prompt you to reboot once it reboots you should see the network.. if not post back and we can try something else

 

That didn't work, but my laptop has the networkID box available to be clicked while my desktop (which runs on wireless) does not. Could this be part of the reason it doesn't work?

 

Try setting your router to factory defaults and re apply all the settings you have done, this worked for me on an issue like that.

 

I would rather not do that because I have a lot of ports configured for different computers across the house. All my other computers work on my network not a problem.

 

Try going into the router settings and change the wep key, and the ssid. then change your network on all the computers. basically what you are going to dos setup a new workgroup.
