    Hi folks!

My name is Mitchell... people call me McFly. It's also on my license plate.

I'm brand spanking new to the forums, but not so much to computers. I've been around computers for a LONG time... I mean since SP2 came out... since 1GB Flash Drives, etc. So yeah. :)

But seriously, folks... I have a good question (well I think it's a good one) for y'all. I've toyed with the idea of starting my own LOCAL PC repair business on wheels... something my area needs pretty badly. I'm wondering in regards to parts - how do I get prices cheaper than NewEgg.com? I mean... to find regional distributors, get "dealer prices" and such. I can undercut the very few competitors there are in town and still make significant profit.

Anyone have any links or ideas as far as getting wholesale/"dealer" prices cheaper than NewEgg.com and such? I'm good for a line of credit, a business credit card, etc. Thanks in advance!!!

Hey McFly! I think I'll call you McFlurry. Sounds like you haven't been around computers quite as long as I have. I belive the crossfire platform was making its debut when I started getting into this. So feel fre to ask questions ;)

Just a thought: if you haven't made yourself known to the competition yet, you may be able to ask them where they get their parts. If they don't know you're looking to start a small business, they will probably just tell you assuming you won't be able to get the parts at cost without the necessary licenses. --If you don't mind undercutting the same prices they're getting, that is. If they're not mobile, there's your leg up. You put them out and can raise your prices a bit. Capitalism at its best. Sneeky, ruthless, and American.

Mmmm I like McFlurries... oreo ones... and those spoons are pretty crazy.

I'm only 22. I first started using computers when Windows XP Service Pack 2 came out. I was raised by wolves and an old Indian Shaman taught me how to type on a braile keyboard. I started writing articles for Jet Magazine, then I stepped up to think-tanking one-liners for America's Funniest Home Videos. :D

The competition doesn't know what's going to hit them. Thanks for the idea of calling them and asking where they get their stuff. Or maybe browse their shops and tell them I order stuff from NewEgg - where do you get yours? Etc. I will DEFINATELY undercut their prices silghtly to start. The lease vehicle (I'm thinking 2005 GMC Envoy leased for 36 mos.) will be the business, the office, some of the advertising in itself. THAT's my upper leg on these guys. Also I'm OK with doing a 30 second radio advert. spot which will reach a few towns around my city and I can expect to be easily overwhelmed with business at first. It's then I can rate my services/markup/etc. the most accurately.

    Yay capitalism!

Are you serious? You're responsible for those terrible one-liners? ... then again, it's probably more the hosts blowing the delivery. Oh well.

I'm 21. I've actually been doing the computer thing since... gosh what was new at that point... DDR? Hyper Threading? I don't remember. Either way, the mobo in my first computer I built supported both SD and DDR RAM. And I know, we're both about to get ragged on for how little time we've been doing this, but hey. You dive in where you dive in.

Anyway, yeah. Welcome. Stick around. Kick my ass in the arcade... lots of good thinkers here. Lots of very knowlegable folk.

omgosh. I'm kidding. I was raised by my Dad, a Southern Baptist minister. The last article I wrote was in high school for 9th grade science research project. :| Probably about snakes or strato-cumulonimbulus clouds. I've got plenty of one-liners up my sleeve, yet I don't deliver them as poorly as Bob Saget.

Service Pack 2 came out so recently, I was kidding about that too. LoL I just won't joke from now on. :D I started writing programs on Q-Basic on an old i386 in I think... 5th grade. I was the kid who encouraged our elementary school librarian to install AOL with 100 free minutes!!! on a Win3.1 PC in the library. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I'm gonna go drink some beer for the both of us now.

alright. Let me clearify. I didn't think that you really wrote the one-liners. I was playing along.

I did believe your SP2 comment though. Yeah, it sounded a bit odd, but there's no reason for it to be unreasonable. It's been out about a year now. Doesn't take that long to get into computers when you go head first.

Before I got into computers (at about 18) I didn't know much more than your typical idiot. In less than two months I was building, repairing, and troubleshooting computers. I still have lots to learn, but it wouldn't be absurd to believe you may have gotten into this about a year ago.

And yet, why do I feel so stupid?

1.21 horsepower, baby! woo! wait - and yea - wait no, my name wasn't particularly from Back to the Future... my last name's McCall and well.. I plead the fifth but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I just got up at 5:45 this morning to take my lover to work. My brain is McFried after I just ate a McGriddle. ummm

But oh yeah hey anyways! I'm thinking of calling my company simply "McFlys". There's shops around here called PC Guru, PC Max, Computer Clubhouse, Computer Clinic, Digital Services, etc. McFlys is nice and simple, catchy, and I think more aptly suited for a business on wheels. :D

I tried to convince the D.I. of Recruit Seperation Platoon in USMC boot camp in San Diego that he couldn't check his e-mail because he ran out of hard drive fluid. I told him to search eBay. Boy did I get it. :(

    :D

Like Blinker Fluid in your car... muffler bearings... LCD jumper pins... hard drive fluid... keyboard softener... replacement balls for optical mice... the internal clock on your headphones...
