Hello there. Im new to this so bear with me please.

Im running windows xp 34bit completely stock pc.

Recently ive noticed that my F-Secure doesnt load up when i want it too. It loads up and prevents viruses (it deleted 3 recently) and does scans for me, but apart from that, it will not go to the 'main screen'.

Secondly, my office doesnt work properally. My word, excell, powerpoint, assess ect works. But every now and then, they dont, and ask for my microsoft office 2003 key. (Which has been missing for about 5 years). Tried downloading a cdkey finder (tells you all your keys on your pc, so i can type it back in) but that failed. Now i have a windows automatic update getting ready which fails every time. Its called
'Installing office xp service pack 3 (update 1 of 1)... '
This then fails half way through asking for my 'microsoft office xp professional with frontpage' cd-rom (which i dont have). Then the update fails.

Thirdly, i recently installed a nvidea 9800gt graphics card and i believe i may have plugged a wire from that into the motherboard wrongly. Lots of bluescreens asking about the card.

Lastly, my pc is running mega-slow. Crashing almost 3 times every half a day, freezing alot, and bluescreening 2/3 times a week. Today i have run 3 virus-checks with f-secure,SUPERanti-spyare and HijackThis(which i didnt understand one bit.) 1st 2 saying its clean. I defragged the whole pc - still slow and crashing. Deleted all unwanted programs and i have over 120+GB free space still. - Still slow and crashing.

I am completly stumped, any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    Kane Leeming

It appears that you have multiple issues / problems.

I think you should tackle the hardware / graphics card issues First.
If you are getting blue screen STOP Errors about the graphics card, then there
may be a potential for eventual hardware damage if you continue to use it in this way for a prolonged period.

I suggest that you copy (quote) this and use it to start a new thread in the Hardware forum.
You can click 'Quote' in this post, then select all of the text and Copy (Ctrl+C).
Then start a new thread in Hardware forum and Paste.

Add anything else you can about the specific error messages you are getting about the Graphics card.

    First thing to try:
    • Download the appropriate driver for that card here:
      Nvidia - download drivers
    • Uninstall the current Graphics driver ONLY via Add or Remove Programs.
    • Reboot
    • skip through the 'New Hardware found' prompts you will see - just Cancel
    • go back to 'Add or Remove Programs', choose 'Add New Programs' and navigate to the driver that you downloaded.

Getting the Old driver removed and installing the proper driver my fix the graphics card errors.

Thanks for the link. I tried contacting the people in the UK, seeing as that websight was US, and they tried charging me £46 just to talk to someone on the phone !??!

    ***UPDATE***

Reinstalled my f-secure and its working.
    Uninstalled Office 2003.
    Installed Office 2007.
    PC running so much faster.
Automatic updates are now downloading. (21 overall !!?!)
Havn't crashed, bluescreened or froze yet. Fingers crossed.

    One more question...

Sometimes the leg of my rolling office chair hits the main bulk of the PC and in turn, crashes my pc. I've had a look around and nothing seems to be loose. Sometimes it will re-start, sometimes it will bluescreen and sometimes it will freeze. Any ideas ?

Once again thank you for your continuted help and support.

    Kane

Open the box and check the power and data connections.
    Power off the machine first.
Ensure you have a good connection.
Bumping the chair against it may have loosened the contacts.

Sounds like your computer is on the floor. If that's true, consider getting it up
on a Stable and Secure table. It will collect more dust inside being on the floor
and repeated bumping certainly isn't good for the hard drive.

Not necessary, but something to think about.

    Sounds good, though.
Glad you got things working so well. :)
