XP Pro. I have just finished building my first computer and I did a newbie thing
installing windows XP Pro, I jumped in with both feet before getting all info I should have. I Have a WD800JB..80GB HDD, I partioned to 20 gb and installed XP Pro, as and afterthought my desire now is to make a primary partion of 4GB and make it a fat 32 for DOS emergecies, then 30GB NTFS extended/logical, then 23GB extended/logical and then 0ne more 23gb extended/logical. But not thinking that FDISK will not run under win XP Pro, now what do I do do clean everything off and start over on HDD. I have no information on it that I would like to save just a clean HDD as I had to start with. WHAT do I do now?

If you're willing to start from scratch, the Windows XP install disk can do your partitioning for you. Watch the prompts, and when you get the option, remove all current partitions, starting with the last one, and finishing with your primary partition. Then repartition the drive, and have Windows format the primary (C:/ ) partition in either NTFS or FAT32, your choice. Once you install Windows on that partition, you can partition/repartition/format the rest of the disk from within Windows: go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Disk Management, and do it from there. You just can't touch the primary partition that Windows is on.

[edit] You're quicker than me Robo. ;) [/edit]

Thanks to all who made life a little simpler

I used the XP disk and when it got to install or repair I used esc. and deleted all the partions and started over. I think I've got what I want now, so now I can go to Disk Mangemant and format rest of partions, it did not ask if I wanted this drive to be logical or extended, did I miss something......Again MY THANKS to all who replied.
