You cannot just run any program that you normally have installed on your hard drive as a portable app. Generally, a portable version of the program must have been developed. So, for example, you cannot run MS Office as a portable app because a portable version has not been developed; most likely, one reason it has not been released as a portable version is the sheer size of the program.

For a lighter weight office suite that can be run as a portable app, try OpenOffice. You'll it at the site posted by pwillener.

Thanks. MS office can be portable. I have found it yesterday. You may visit Prayaya V3. I am trying on this cool ware. Seems very useful. I'll share my experience later.:p

Well, we don't know that MS office can be portable by using Prayaya V3. I think we need some clear evidence that that can be done before actually saying it can be done.

It seems to work. I just installed that ware called Prayaya into my USB and then intalled MS office 2003 to prayaya. and then I plug my USB to another PC, it works. so that is. any thing wrong?

BTW, prayaya seems like a virtulization system similar to VM ware. but I am not very sure.

Other apps I tried on it with sucess include, Firefox, Opera, Skype, MSN, Picasa, and a bunch of games.

Mojopac does that too and is free?

For money there is Thinstall, BoxedApp, and VMWare ACE.

Thanks, seems useful. but get away from Thinstall and VM, it costs loads of money if you like.

Mojopac seems ok, but seems a dead site. Anyway, I'll try ;)

Hey, it seems that Mojopac can not be normally installed. There is even not any support for it.

    I think I will go for Prayaya V3. :-D

    Prayaya V3 fully tested.

Basically,it is virtual operaing system that allows you to launch most apps and games off a USB drive BUT not officially claimed any app and game.

To use it, you first install it on a removable device like USB drive, iPOd, or mobile HDD, or even your hard disk(I did not try it, but it seems ok.). And then you can install ware from Prayaya V3 platform.

In my opinion, it virtualizes a new Windows OS, which makes it possible for installing and running apps, managing files, desktops etc.

A few apps and games that I have tried on it: Firefox, Opera, Safari, MS office, Nero, Winrar, Virtual DJ, Skype, Plants vs Zombie, Icy Tower, Super Mario, Couter Srike, KM Player, Yahoo Messenger, MSN, Picasa. These are my daily used apps. And they work perfectly.

However, there are some that seems not working on it like Google Chrome, PhotoShop, Coreldraw.

Also I found that Prayaya V3 seems to write registry into USB but not a host computer. I think that is why it can launch so many apps and games. a good advantage is that not any trace will be left on a computer if you run it off a USB drive.

Generally, I think it is a cool ware that is worthy of a try. I like its cool interface, cool feeling switching between two systems, two desktops. However, if you just want to run common apps off a USB drive, I think PortableApps.com is enough for you. If you want to go furthur, Prayaya V3 is a good try.
