i have a wireless network in my home. for some reason, my daughters laptop will not connect to any download servers. the internet works fine, however when we try to update virus definations, or update a game she plays etc.... we get an error message that we cannot connect to the server.

now, im pretty certain that is probably some simple network setting that im overlooking.

this is a toshiba laptop, d-link wireless network, windows xp.

    thanks for taking a look.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!!

Just a hunch, but you might want to look into security settings. If she uses IE it could be the settings are blocking downloads - I had a work-station that would connect to the internet just fine, but blocked anything that involved java, and would allow connection to a MS Outlook account but would not display messages or allow new messages to load, nor allow downloads by some second party programs. I reset IE's security settings to default for a test, and that cleared up the problem. I then went into IE and taylored the security settings for our agency. Never did determine what caused the problem. Firewall and router settings deserve a look-see also.

Not much help, I know. Hopefully some more savvy folks then I can shed some light on the problem.
