    Hi Everyone:

Last night I ran a HijackThis Scan. It shows that I've
got NewDotNet on my computer. I googled it and then
tried locating it on my computer by looking in Program
Files, Add-Remove in Control Panel and by doing a search
for it. All of those procedures turned up nothing. I then
ran Ad-Aware. Nothing. Then ran Spybot. Nothing.
Finally, I found a website and downloaded a little program
called Stinger which I believe is supposed to remove
NetDotNet. Ran it. This morning ran another HijackThis
scan. Evidence is still there of NewDotNet.

Can you all suggest what to do next?

    Thanks,

    Maggie

    To Xflat

    Hi Xflat:

Thank you for your quick response.

I have looked in Add/Remove and cannot locate NewDotNet
    or New.Net.

I looked in Zone Alarm at the programs list and it is not
    there.

I used to use Earthlink as ISP but removed the program
when I went to high speed Internet with my cable company.

I still have NetZero on my computer. I wonder if it would
be a good idea to remove that program. Perhaps NewDotNet
    is hiding within NetZero somewhere?

Any other thoughts or comments you have, I'd greatly
    appreciate!

    Maggie

    @xflat

    Hi xflat,
I am using Earthlink and just ran HiJackThis. For what ever it is worth, that is not on my machine. I guess that is a plus for me anyway. :)

    found this online too:

    1. PROCEDURE 2 (Uninstall from Hard Drive):
      1. Double-click on My Computer.
      2. Double-click on the C: drive.
      3. Double-click on the Program Files folder.
      4. Locate and double-click on the NewDotNet folder. If there is no folder, please proceed to PROCEDURE 3.
      5. Locate and double-click on the uninstall executable; it will be labeled uninstallX_XX.exe. (“X” represents the version number of the uninstaller and you should always use the latest version)
      6. After removal of our software, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot after removing our software.

    NetZero Removed from Computer

    HI Everyone:

I have just removed NetZero from my computer and rebooted.

I have another quick question related to NewDotNet.
Is this something that can be passed from one computer to
another as a virus can be?

    Thanks,

    Maggie

If it did, it would be classed as a virus rather than spyware.

Tch, i never knew that this was that easy to remove!! I was blasting it at my friends house for hours, eventually i managed to nuke the DLL and scrable the reg entries related to it. Ahh, nothing like a bit of manual spyware removal to wake one up in the evening! :D

im pretty sure its harmful, it screwed up my computer when i had it. i dono, i dont like the fact that it automatically installs itself. i consider that kinda stuff spyware.

    Something Bizarre to Report

Just a short time ago, I again ran Ad-Aware.
THIS TIME it picked up NewDotNet!!!!!!!
    Go figure!!!!!!!!!!!
    I just ran Ad-Aware last
night and it didn't pick up anything!
    I updated Ad-Aware last night
before I ran it. I updated it
again this morning before running it!!!!!

    Helium!! hehe

    *ahem*

that LSPFix tool added to the toolkit, along with WinSockFix which is also useful for spyware that screws up the winsock component when you try to remove it.

and its a good idea to run ad-aware twice...just to be sure :D

alot of geeks here (myself included) use ad-aware and spybot s&d...run one then run the other.

Many thanks for links! I will check those out!

I like both Ad-Aware and Spybot. Have
been using them for quite awhile. I was
quite surprised though, to have the
    NewDotNet show up suddenly after
having just scanned a few hours
    earlier and nothing
    seemed to have been found.
