several people I know were lately infected by the advanced version of Total Security delivered they said via mal/spy ware.they are not newbies to computers either and it still took almost a week to debug and deworm their machines so if something pops up and tells you you need to download anything because you're infected don't. it is the virus(goes uner different names too) that is a tough nut to crack.just passing info along.

    ;)

Your efforts to help are appreciated, capn. I think you are also aware of the intentions of my post. * Things are becoming quite complicated in malware removal and often several steps are involved in completely removing it.

    :p

If you would like to do some additional reading --- check out some logs in our Malware Forum for the use of RootRepeal, SysProt, and exeHelper and what they can tell you.

EDIT:...and I would recommend adding a fresh dl of this to everybody's toolkit for every use:

That is great but if you and everyone else have a real-time AV and firewall already does that not conflict with the free program? will be reading up on and in the Malware forum too.

The utility does not require installation and causes no conflicts. It is not a permanent tool and it's database is updated several times per hour; so to use it a second time, you should download a new package.
