For simple reading, downloading, and simple posting, Outlook Express does a pretty good job. Easy to use, combines multipart messages, and with a small helper app, handles the new yEnc encoding just fine. You can get that app here: yProxy

For serious and heavy file downloading, there are better. Check here for summaries of the features of most of them.

    Nice link GT, thanks!

I've been using Forte for quite a long time but I hated those HUGE dat files. After some investigation I found the answer. For pure leeching, I don't think anything beats Grabit. It's free, it's small (compared to Forte) you can make posts with it, nothing fancy but this puppy is pure download. You can pause it, you can save it, exit, and reload where you were on the batched download all with a click of a button.

I don't want to highjack ur thread or anything but honestly, the reader is only half the story, a good news server is worth paying for and the debate about which one is best is very heated, to put it mildly.
