:cryThis is a nightmare! I am trying to get DSL. I have found a network adapter on my computer. I have been told by my ISP that I need to have my NIC reinstalled. How do I know if I even have one? Where do I look? Would my best bet be to take the infernal contraption to Geek Squad for a once-over? Why does it feel like the water is swirling and I can't get a handhold? When I try logging on with the DSL, the icon on the taskbar indicates that I am connected to the internet, but IE won't connect me to any websites. I get sent to a setup screen that tells me that my ISP email address and password do not match any on file. I am really close to just going back to dial-up and forgetting the whole thing!:banghead

Funny I thought DSL uses "modems" and not nic cards. what is the model of the PC? Dell, Compaq, HP? Hmm its been a while since I've played withthis kind of stuff. Let me see...brb.:confused

Oh. I just read thru your question to see that I was way off base.
You are using DSL not Dial up. Got cha.

Your nic should be on the back side of the pc. It looks like a regular phone jack but a tad smaller. It will usually have green lights flashing if it is working and have this some where near the lights"10/100"

Geek squad is cool, but you can do this.

When u open ie click on the tools option and then click the connection tab.
Play around with it. I'm not what vs or ie u are using.

DSL using a modem. A phone jack is plugged into it and the outcomming ethernet cord connects to the nic. The end it bigger then a phone jack.

Do you have a router? if you do your computer will say its connected but there is no internet getting to your router.

NIC is a network adapter. Contact your isp, sometimes you need to register your mac address with them in order for you to access the internet.

You should call up your DSL provider and verify your email account details.
Then they should walk you through the set up procedure. If a level one tech cannot get you connected, ask for a higher level tech or supervisor.
If all else fails, they should send someone out. They are providing a service that you are paying for but cannot use so far. If they want to keep your business, the burden is on them.
