    Hi,

Anyone familiar with this (screenshot attached) that came with my new digi-cam, please?

I'm wondering how much (if any) of it I might wish to install...or not install...?

I also just received a copy of PhotoShop, so I certainly don't wish to duplicate any functions (take-up unnecessary space, etc.) with similar programs of the two, Nikon Suite and Adobe Photoshop...

    Thanks in advance,
    g...

    Hi Glenn

The only one not to install again is Quicktime as you have iTunes (presumably) then you don't need QT again, the rest are Nikon options, but in reality you don't need the Nikon image software if you have Photoshop (BTW what version of Photoshop) as transferring imaged from camera to PC is straight forward and then you only need one Image editing and/or Image cataloging app.

But maybe worth trying out the Nikon app and if you think its duplicated with functions in PS then uninstall, but don't rule it out yet as a good app, I may think its not but you may like it.

    Hi David and thanks,

Pretty incredible how you can recall better than I what is installed on my PC.

I got anxious (OVERLY), and went forward, installing the whole kit-n-kaboodle...now I suppose I have QT DOUBLY-installed...??

    Hi Glenn

I have a weird talent of a good memory!

No QT should not be installed twice, but do check Add/Remove for that and if two are there uninstall the older of the two, but knowing QT it only installs once unlike how Java used to be in installing many versions.

I would try the Nikon app out and see if you like it, personally I do have 4 image editing apps installed as they all do different things and at times you just need a basic edit and others a more professional edit as in Photoshop/Lightroom.

Would anyone be so kind as to tell me if I have actually (SOMEHOW??) managed to do it YET AGAIN??

    Duplicate QT''s or QT-related - redundancy?

PS/EDIT - Not sure if I got it all marked in Paint the first time...?

    Hi Glenn

Those are OK as they are all for various different Apple component apps, if you had multiple references to QT then I would be suggesting uninstall all and re-install latest version but you don't.

iTunes installs along with iTunes, Apple Update, Apple Application Support, possibly Apple Mobile Device support (if iPhone user and possibly an iPod), and QT

These are all separate components even though iTunes can install them in one go, they are all listed in Add/Remove separately. Your QT is latest version also, just checked mine

As a matter of closure, I wanted to mention that this thread is finished for all intents and purposes in that my newly-acquired spastic hands allowed (or forced?) this three-week-old Nikon out of my hands, and onto a concrete slab which has apparently ruined the overly-delicate device.

I am guessing (now) that there is (was) some sort of padded case I may have found/purchased in advance of this accident. The SALES-person was sure to pitch some vague (to me) sort of "insurance" protection, however there was no mention of physical protection, such as I bought for my sons "DS" game (or PSP, don't recall which at the moment).

    Thanks again and take care.

Yikes...I had also wanted to mention one other thing re: this thread.

I somehow, it seems (?), inadvertently "Rated" this thread, and Rated it pretty dog-gone well (Five/5 Stars!?!). I have been known to "sleep-walk" (my term/definition/DX), however I would be somewhat surprised to find myself rating threads at MG'S as opposed to standing at the refrigerator with the door wide open at 2, 3, 4:00 AM ("0:400" or "0400" for others).

    Oh well........

    Hi Glenn
Thats a pity on the camera :(

As for ratings you may or may not have rated it as anyone can rate threads and someone else may have found it interesting, dont worry about it its no biggy.

Thanks David...I have managed to get the cam working, "to some extent"...though I've "lost" the main function that the camera was bought for - the ZOOM feature.

Everything else seems to be "working", though not very well...if I'm very careful (and for whatever reason?) use my left-hand fingers to touch buttons for adjustments and switching between modes etc., I can get other functions to operate...but yes, she has apparently (already) "seen better days" ... at only one month and one day of age - just today. :(

    Thanks again...
