   does anyone has ever encountered or used NIS for authentication in a network of at most 15 clients?

   nevermind. my problem is already solved: i forgot to put my firewall down.
   
   my new problem is that the passwd and group seems to be inaccessible to the clients. the \u option in PS1 does not work.
