More than likely you simply need to install the drivers for the sound device. What type of computer do you have? Make and model? Or if it's a custom build the make and model of the motherboard and if your using built in audio or a addon sound card...........

Yeah, I agree. VERY few sound drivers are picked up by XP and reloaded when installing a clean OS; only really old sound chips usually. Run a system info utility like Everest or Unknown Devices or PCWizard; or if you have a mass produced PC (like an HP or Compaq or Dell) you can post the make and model and we will post a link to your driver(s). Chances are, you need other drivers besides your audio (video is commonly not installed by XP also).

It's a custom build machine. You were right, I just needed to re-install my drivers and now it works perfectly. Thanks!!

One quick question, do you think I can add another audio card even though I already have one? There's this program I've been trying to install. It let's install but when I run it, it tells me my audio card isn't compatible. What do you think? Let me know. Thanks in advance!!

Sure that can be done. Or you can disable your onboard audio in the bios and just use the addon....

Oh, I guess I'm gonna have to do that. Where could I buy a add-on?

Do you have any decent computer stores nearby? If you're gonna go after a addon your best bet would be something in the creative line. Creative set the standard for sound cards many moons ago. I can't imagine a program that wouldn't be compatible with a creative card. If you don't have a decent store nearby there is always newegg.com.............

It's best to start your own thread. When you post it include a description of how you lost your driver. Malware? Re-install of your OS? Anything that might help us.
And also, include an attachment of an Everest report.
    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. .
