I know a lot of threads have been posted on this regard, but none have been effective, This is a friends computer and i have piddled with it off and on for a couple days now. No audio device recognized in sound manager, all drivers updated as far as can tell, including bios and chipset. Any ideas?

    CMI8738 Audio Driver for WinXP
From the report, it looks like you have an HP a600 tower, but HP has no drivers for the audio, but they also say it has RealTek AC97 audio, but the report says CMI8738. So, try the link I posted above, and let us know how it goes!
