no audio device installed

I have just installed xp x64 on my laptop (thinkpad t60) and the volume icon in the taskbar is missing, when i look in sounds speech and audio devices it says "no audio device"
The laptop is fully updated now, one of the updates was a sound driver but still no sound or icon in the task bar.
Does anyone know how to help me fix this problem. :confused

Hi

In Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks and if so by what devices?

What you may need is the UAA HD audio driver for x64 XP HERE but do make sure you install your Chipset first and reboot then install the UAA driver then the Audio one again,

In Services your Windows Audio service is set to Started and startup type set to Automatic?

In the Audio settings for playback in the dropdown do you have any other devices you can pick?

Hi thanks for trying to help but the driver u give doesnt install, it says "setup has detected that the service pack version of this system is newer than the update u are applying. there is no need for this update."
In the services its showing windows audio as started automatic.
In sounds and audio devices its says no audio device and none of the drop downs in there are working, not in any of the tabs.
