I have no sound on my DELL OPTIPLEX GS 260. When I checked Sounds and Audio devices Properties, on the VOLUME tab, I have NO AUDIO DEVICE. When I click on Hardware I can see my DVD, SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio, Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Devices, Legacy Vidio Capture Devices and Video Codecs. All indicate the device is working properly. There are no ? in device manager.

I have already tried re installing drivers. (installed drivers from Dell site)
I also tried system restore to earlier point (7 times???) to different points but for some reason my system will not restore? No changes made???

    Greetings, mkstainton.

Just to get it out of the way have you tried the Microsoft Fix it?

It's also been my experience that (especially with older systems) it's always a good idea to make sure the machine's chipset drivers are up to date when working with audio problems.

I ran Fix it but it did not work.
