No audio from Realtek HD audio

My hard drive recently crashed on me and I finally replaced it yesterday. I am running XP and now have thru service pack 3. I cannot get my onboard audio to play thru my speakers. Audio works in my USB headphones, but nothing from the speaker port. I don't want to have to wear my headphones all the time.

I read quite a few threads about how to fix it on this site but it's still acting up.
I did the registry change from SP3 to SP2 and back and that didn't work.
I don't have anything listed in my Legacy Audio drivers on the Device Manager.
I disabled and then uninstalled the UAA HD driver from the System Devices in the Dev Manager. I was finally able to get the Realtek driver installed then, but still no sound. However, now, whenever I restart my computer, it automatically reinstalls the UAA HD driver and gives me an unknown in the Audio portion.

I have included the Everest report. My friend built my computer for me about a year ago so hopefully the following are close enough for you.
AMD athlon 64x2 dual core processor
unknown mother board, but I think it's a Gigabyte S-series (at least that's what the cd I still have says on it)
    Windows XP with SP3

Please let me know if I need anymore information. Thanks

I'm assuming the onboard audio worked before the hard drive crash.... first thing I'd recommend is to unplug the USB audio device (headphones) and leave 'em unplugged for now. Then uninstall the software for the USB headphones if you can. Go to Add/Remove Programs and look for anything listed for audio/sound drivers and uninstall it; this applies to the onboard audio also. If you see KB888111 listed (the UAA update), remove it. Restart the PC. If KB888111 auto-installs again, that means that it wasn't completely removed. You can try using the steps in this link or this link to completely remove KB888111. Restart the PC when all the sound drivers and related items have been removed. Go into the BIOS and make sure that the on board audio is enabled correctly. Boot in to Windows and cancel the New Hardware Wizard if it opens. Install your chipset drivers; you can download them from this direct link. Reboot when done. Again, cancel the hardware wizard if it opens. Then install your sound drivers; download them from this link. Reboot when done. Make sure the speakers are plugged in to the green port on the back of the PC. Don't worry about the front ports for now, once we get sound from the back port, we'll then try the front port.... good luck! Let us know how it goes!
