I had to format my hard drive and was warned before hand of course that the entire drive would be erased and the computer would be identical to what it was when I took it home. However, that wasn't the case as the sound isn't working. I'm getting a similar message as yours except it tells me "No Audio Devices" I've tried everything I can think of short of trashing the thing. If it was to be restored to its' original state, why is there no audio device when it was there when I bought the machine?
    Hope someone can help. Thanks

    Hi,
Try Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices, Audio tab, under Default Device see if there are any other options instead of the default device chosen by clicking down arrow. I am assuming that the Audio Device is showing up in the Device Manager under Sound, video, and game controlers without a red x or yellow question mark in front of it. Start, Run, devmgmt.msc. I reformatted my sister-in-laws Dell and it didn't choose the proper device by default. I didn't need a driver, just the proper device to use chosen. Give it a check, if not post up again.
