I was noticing that I was getting blue screen of death at boot after I notice the speaker go from red x to no x and then bsod of (portcls.sys) watch was the audio . so I set the windows audio service to manual (via safe-mode) then rebooted and updated my realtek hd audio drivers. then I set the windows audio back to automatic and rebooted.. in hardware manger it stated that my audio is working correctly yet it looks have working and have not yet still no audio here are some screen shots to point out what is happening

I notice there is a few threads regarding this but my problem seems to be different as these solutions do not seem to correct my problem

onboard audio is enabled in the bios

"show disabled audio devices" does nothing.

doing as you said I used the drive fusion thing and completely removed the sound driver via it. then installed the sound driver you had described

still had the same problem, then I checked the version number and then obtain the most up to date of the same driver (r2.70 instead of r2.68)

both give me the same error. where it appears like its all installed and working yet audio settings appear half installed. like it list a red x saying no audio devices. yet when you click it it shows them listed http://i.imgur.com/5TnIh.png < when I click this I get this list

notice in the photo how configure is not grayed out but clicking it does nothing.

    yet I here no audio..

I did restart after each installation still no luck.

UPDATE I have a solution its a very awkward one and does not appear like it will be a fix but it is and works perfectly.

    HI

Interesting fix and I have seen this work for drivers that come as a pack, say LAN and Audio, but never the less, great troubleshooting and cheers for posting your fix.

I do just wonder what was the original cause, could be faulting Chipset driver as in the main that one needs to be installed or re-installed before installing Audio/LAN drivers for those to work properly. However as your PC is working I would leave alone unless it faults again.
