No Boot File Received ???

Several days ago one of our computers booted with a hard drive not found message - options to choose esc. to exit or enter to cancel. I chose enter the PC shut down and I rebooted - The system works -BUT, it has a very slow start and goes to a black screen with Boot Agent PXE 0007E941E43E followed by DHCP and a blinking cursor, eventually it adds No Boot file Received. It will then boot to WIN XP. The system seems to work fine at this time. I have run thru a series of anti virus protocols and have found nothing. Should I worry about this or should I say it’s not broke don't fix it?

The computer is attempting to boot from the network. There may be an option in the BIOS to disable this.

What make and model of computer / motherboard do you have?

System Model -Midway
System type - x86-based PC
processor -x86 family 15 model 2 stepping 9 genuine Intel 2394 Mhz
BIOS version/Date Intel Corp. BF86510A.15A.0043.P07.0308011434, 8/1/2003
SMBIOS Ver. 2.3

Does this help? - I have no info. on the MOB and Gateway wants $$ to answer any questions.

I don't think 4100B is the model number. Look for a tag on the back of the PC with model number.

When you first start your computer do you see a boot screen before Windows that says something like "hit F2 or DEL to enter setup"?

 

OK:
The model number from the back:
MFAT XP NT MDW SB-4100-B PC
There is not a screen with commands such as hit F2 for startup.


Startup Info:
before issue - gateway splash screen appears and in 3-4 seconds Win XP splash screen and coputer boots to desktop (we have 4 of these computers and I checked this on two of them)

Now - gateway spash scrren appears - then screen goes black - the following appears:
Intel Boot agent FE v.4.1.10 copyright 1997-2003 Intel Corp.
Intel Boot agent PXE Base code (BA1210BC-GWC)

DHCP_ (this underscore is a flashing cursor with a spinning \)

This screen is up for 45 secs. Then the following appears.
PXE-E53: No Boot file received
PXEMOF:exiting Intel boot

the system then starts up - yes its on a network - and the server is always up and running before this PC is booted.

There are various keys for getting into the BIOS on any computer. The standard ones are:
DEL
F1
F2
ESC

Try any of these whilst the gateway splash screen is showing. If you get into the BIOS, then write a little note to remember the key.

I will now post links to pictures of two different types of BIOS. Please report back and say which type you have.

OK - The BIOS screen is a TYPE 2.

What Next?

 

Right, now you need to use the left and right keyboard arrows to navigate to the "BOOT" tab. Once there, use the up and down arrows to navigate to the hard drive, and use the + to put it to the top of the list.

If you look on the right of the screen there may be some instructions for disabling the network boot option.

use your arrow keys to navigate to where it says "BOOT" at the top, in that menu you will see a network or PXE boot, you will need to disable that
