    Recent History
About 1 month ago, had bluish tent to color, but was not blue screen of death. Read dust could cause this, & completely vaccumed & blew out interior of case. Reset color default...color returned to normal, computer speed nearly like new, & worked great for about 1 week.

    Current Problem
On Friday, using computer approximately 10 minutes, screened pixilated & froze. Turned power off by pressing button. Now XP will not boot. After desktop sits for long time & turned on, the Gateway page will appear & freeze. Turn of desktop after short intervals, nothing comes up. Everytime it's started the fan starts, & there's a single beep.

    Currently done
So far I have attempted to start the computer in safe mode with the XP disk with no success. I have used the CMOS clear jumper with the tower unplugged, starting while pressing insert, starting while pressing delete, & no success. Rechecked all the connections to see if something came lose in the cleaning process. Researched the many possible problems that could be going on.

I have a multi-meter that I will try to use if needed, but thought this would be a corrupt file issue that simply needed the XP disc. Does it sound like it could be more? How do I start the computer in safe mode when it will not boot further than the start up Gateway screen? Does this appear to be a software or hardware problem?:confused

Did first set the BIOS to boot from the CD? On Gateways, it is accessed by tapping either th F1 or F2 key on startup, try both.http://bestsmileys.com/waving/2.gif

It sounds more like either a video card problem or a monitor problem. Though it might also be a corrupt video driver.

Do you have a video card or is it an onboard chip?

It isn't necessary to put in an XP disk to boot into safe mode. Have you tapped F8 at startup to try to boot in safe mode? (Your computer might use another key. My newer computer requires me to tap F12 at startup to get a boot menu choice).

You can try to attach a different monitor and see if the computer boots up.

Haven't been able to boot in safe mode pushing any of the mentioned keys.

Monitor is working fine attached to my old computer. Hooked up old monitor & today haven't even received the Gateway start up page.

    It has an onboard chip.

Spoke with an IT friend that is taking a look at it tomorrow. Thinks it's nothing major.

    Thanks for the info :)
