hey, im not sure where to put this, (and I know Im back again, I dont ahve much luck with computers) but heres my problem. my computer just will not boot. I power it up and it goes as far as XP loading up, then screen goes black and restarts, going back to the boot screen again,a nd gives me the windows error, (boot normally, safe mode etc) cant boot in any mode. it was working fine last week, and the last few days it started to just randomly cut out. I tried changing the ram for a different stick of same speed etc and it still doesnt work...

Sorry, didnt finish taht sentence. I meant the black screen where it offers you the choice of safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, restore windows to last known good config and start windows normally. No error code. Sorry, my bad

does it go to a blue screen real fast then go back. Um well we had this problem on a comp in my maintence class and I believe were going to reformat hard drive. So yup unless you need something on it then I reccomend that. :S sorry for bad news but that would solve your problem lmao. consider yourself lucky XD atleast your thing goes to xp ha ha mine just black whole time lmfao

Firstly I would be checking the Hardware Monitoring section of your BIOS and looking at the CPU temps, make sure that heat is not the cause of this.

If it seems your hardware is fine and you feel it is a corrupted OS here is a link that has saved all of my DATA on several occasions, please read it carefully if you are going to follow it and DO NOT select the first repair option:

can't boot in safe mode. What happens is it gives me the loading bar for XP, then flashes straight abck to the boot logo.

Cheers boldeagle, I'll take a look at them later on in the day whejn I'm free.

Safe mode shouldn't give you a xp loading screen. It should show a list of all the files it's loading.

Can you go back and try it again?

Nps, I would be looking at ur temps first of all and try and rule out hardware, if the CPU is getting to hot the PC will shut down to preserve the hardware. The articles are all the same but read twice and follow once. Selecting the wrong Repair option will do a complete reformat and complete loss of all previous DATA.

tried again, i get the files loading and then after that it just gioes black and reboots

Forgot to state, reason I thoguth it was a hardware problem, sometimes when it fails and restarts, I hear the power run into it,. and the mosue lights up, but theres no power lights on the front, and the hard drives dont kick in (cant hear them)

yeah, I dont think its temps, but I cant get into my bios to check. every time I try to access the bios to check anything, or to even change the boot order the PC just shuts off, and kicks back in, but I can only ehar the power supply and see the LED lights on the mouse and the nulockm etc keys on the keyboard, no HD activity lights or even a power light. cant hear the hard drive either.

okay, so I let it run itself for about 2 hours, just rebooting uin cycle, and the temps are quite alright (have a thermometer, stuck it in the case, it only showed about 30 degrees) still nothing else happening.

Got into the advanced options, selected to boot from CD drive, then as soon as the XP disc got past asking me for an ASR (ress F2) the PC shut down and went back to the normal thing of power but no activity. disabled automatic reboot on system failure, as soon as I chose Microsoft XP professional SP3 it shut off and rebooted.

It could be a dying PSU but I would be opening your case and unplugging everything and then re-connecting all of our parts.

On a whim I pulled out the HD form that PC, and hooked it up to my own rig (this one here, its my other family PC thats bunched) and when i booted it up it ran a checkdisk, and let me see it in this PC, so I put it back and my PC booted into winXP, but after 5 or 6 mins it died on me again. that mean anything? I thought PSU too tbh.
