Did you ever get an answer to this, I installed a network card and configured our system but the light to indicate connection is not flashing when I plugged in the 10baset ethernet cable.

There is not enough info to give a proper answer. But if you are networking (2) PCs directly be sure that you are using a crossover cable. The packaging will clearly tell you.

Computers are Not People you can Not take the Error Statements literally.
Bad Cable might mean that you do not have a valid connection due to variety of failures and Not necessarily Bad Cable per-ce.

First make sure that your Network is configured correctly.

There is also a possibility that the NIC is faulty, or and not configured correctly even if Windows System Properties reports that every thing is all right.

Get the most recent drivers and try to use the NIC properties to update the drivers.
