No complaint this post

I'm glad to report that today has been good, computer wise :-D. I was concerned about heating issues with my 4870 and 4870x2 and because Riva Tuner 2.24 hadn't been working correctly, I bit the bullet and took both cards apart, cleaned both (you would be surprised at how the fuzz had made its' way inside the card), removed the old thermal paste and applied new thinner layers as opposed to the globs the manufacturer had applied.

Once the cards were put back together I ran both (separately) and at 55% fan speed both were 41 to 42c at idle (pre cleaning 47 to 49c) and with Fallout 3 neither broke 67c under 100% load (as opposed to low to mid 70s). Pretty good since I'm running the Hi-Res texture pack at 1680 x 1050 with the game setting the video options to ultra with FOOK, MMMF3 and several other mods (one is Hi-Res weapons). In game, I haven't checked frame rate, but since it's much smoother I really don't need to know.

BTW,I'll check those temps next to full load temps in Crysis, today.

 

WELL alrighty then, just ran Crysis where you're inside the mountain with all the machines, aliens, atmospheric effects and boy-o-boy...frames were going from 32 to 55 to 19 to mid 20s and when I looked at gpuz the core temp had reached 80c.
Still I'm guessing that's not too bad seeing as how some have reported 60 to 70c at idle with 90+ and higher on load. The other thing is that Riva Tuner has not allowed me to set the fan control so that it will throttle up at high temps.
