Your laptop should have some means of creating these disks. Check your Start->All Programs. On my HP desktop, it is Start->All Programs->PC Help and Tools, and the list there includes 'create recovery DVD's'. On my laptop, which is a Lenovo Thinkpad, it was Start->All Programs->Thinkvantage->Create Recovery Media.

Just so you know, you'll probably only be allowed to create the recovery disks once, so once you've done that, keep them safe.

You probably actually DO have a recovery partition, but hidden to keep you from messing with it. I mean, the info has to be there somewhere, otherwise you wouldn't be able to even create recovery disks in the first place, right? I can see my recovery D drive on my HP desktop, although it is locked, but the recovery drive or partition is hidden on my laptop.

The laptop required CD's, and it took 9 or 10 of them. I would have preferred DVD's, but it wouldn't do DVD's for some reason. I mean, it CAN write to DVD's, but it wouldn't use DVD's for the recovery disks. The desktop took two DVD's.

    Good luck!

What is the make and model of your laptop? I can look to see what your options are for recovering - every manufacturer has a different way of doing things.

Actually this is assuming alot. I have seen many, MANY systems that do not have either a recovery partition (hidden or not), or a way to create recovery media. I fully agree that mass-marketed systems should include ready-to-go discs, or an option to build-n-burn your own discs, but sadly, this is not always the case.
    Yup.

    :-D

:-o Wow, Dlb, that is surprising that some don't. I just figured a PC would come with either recovery disks and/or a recovery partition. Shows how much I know, eh? ;)

(I'll be shutting up now, I'll let you experts handle it!)

No link; that's why I asked what brand and model of computer you have.
