No Desk top icons or task bar...

Hello, I'm running Windows 2000P and yesterday my desk top icons all disappeared, along with my whole task bar and start button. The only way I can get on here, is to go through the Task Manager. Any suggestions as to how to get this stuff back? This morning, Task Master showed Memory usage at full tilt and I could hardley move my mouse. What is that about?

Please folks, toss me a few suggestions to get back in normal mode again. This IS frustrating.

Thanx Baklogic for the thread. Read it all and there's nothing there to help me, that I could see. Also, forgot to mention that I have NO My Computer icon either. This also really limits what I can do with this computer in it's present state. Any other suggestions?
