No display when switching from integrated gfx to Nvidia Geforce GT630 2GB

I have recently upgraded my HP Pavilion computer by putting in some more RAM and an Nvidia Geforce GT630 2GB in the PCI-E 16x slot. The RAM was no problem and works fine.

However, when I try to boot with the gfx card in situ I get the POST and then black screen whilst windows boots (I can hear the entry music on boot). I have tried the following:

    1. Disabled and uninstalled integrated graphics

    2. Upgraded PSU to 500W

    3. Tried a 650W PSU just in case

I can't install the Nvidia drivers as I can't see to install them and it won't let me when the card is not plugged in.

I have looked in BIOS and whilst theres no way to switch to PCI-E as default, there is a line that reads "Integrated Graphics DISABLE" when the card is in situ so I'm guessing it is turned off automatically.

    Specs: HP Pavilion p6-2000ukm
    Foxconn H-CUPERTINO2-H61-uA TX motherboard
    8GB DDR3 1330 MHz RAM
500W PSU (Don't have exact model number to hand)

Any help greatly appreciated as I have been tackling this for hours now!

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

It sounds like you have tried the basic steps to solve the problem. Did you check to be sure the 6-pin power connector to the card was plugged in tightly?

Do you have access to another desktop PC you could install the video card in to test it? If the problem repeats, it's likely the video card is defective.

If it fails in the second PC or you don't have access to one (and you're still within the store or seller's return policy time), I would take it back for refund or replacement. If you can't return it to the seller, I would contact the manufacturer to try and get a replacement if it's still under warranty.

    Hi thanks for the reply.

I can't find a 6-pin connector for an external power input. It seems like it is solely reliant on mobo power. I am just being really stupid and not finding it?

I only have one other PC to try it in but it's running an ATI Radeon card and so would get a driver conflict etc if tried. I may try taking it back and getting them to test the card.

I checked a few of the GT630 models on Newegg.com. Most don't appear to require a 6-pin power connection.

I think you have the right idea about having the card tested.

I have had the exact same problem with my Dell Inspiron 620. Did pretty much everything you dexcribed too. Still looking for an answer, did you ever get yours fixed?
